In facilitating a group, the facilitator in my eyes walks a fine line in how they coordinate and negotiate ideas especially if its a discussion and sharing of ideas. Ijn my, the Ethics of picking and selecting ideas for exploration in this setting are entrenched in power , control and facilitation.
By being the facilitator, control and most of the power rests with you on what mevemnet and ideas are picked. In CCD , as a practitoner, I am tempted to think that it would be ethical in realising the power and control to share and spread it amongst the group. For example, initially breaking down the tasks for the group to aasume thereby neutralising your maximum influence on the group, these tasks can be :
1. Scribing
2. Time keeping
3. Ideas roll caller
etc. These are started in our previous readings and definately help in spreading the responsibility amongst the group.
The other idea of spreading power and control might be consciously developing a structure of the discussion with the whole group, it would then be up to the practitioner to facilitate this development of the structure and also to facilitate the structural adherrence during the discussion. This is important in my eyes as then order in thought and direction is mantained whilst the other group members function by policing other equally important tasks. This might have its own problems I am sure, egos, emotion, boundaries etc can be countered by equally developing a group ethical framework during the process or discussions.
In group noting of ideas, everyone has the power to weed out what they think is important for later consideration, As the list is slowly whittled down the dynamics of group consensus might start coming into play and the facilitator role might become more pronounced.
