So you have seen a Skinny Twin production...

A leader sometimes displays an amazing propensity to be reactive as a style in an effort to appear in touch and in control. This is noticeable in a work space where innovation is displayed and encouraged initially. Such a leader can encourage it until it as a flagship to complement their agenda, and if this agenda is driven by the ego or an effort to “show”, sometimes it might overwhelm them and the people they lead. This might end up drowning their intentions and short comings in a mileage of discourse and projects to tackle.

Such a leader is prone to assess their risks which in most cases is perceived elements in the team. A leader on the path takes a few prisoners as their reactivity continues in damage control. It can be viewed as an effort to regain" authority” and the power they thought they wielded. Here their unconscious view of themselves is revealed. If a leader is reflective and has the ability to self critic, this is the point they might relinquish the post or go the extreme of trying to appease everyone. This does not endear them to anyone, rather the adage” no one likes an arse kisser cannot be more pronounced.

In such a case, an atmosphere of respect, supportive supervision and progressive discourse is replaced by uncertainty, frustration and how did this happen and soon everything the leader says and does is put under the micro scope , dissected and thrown back in their face as failure. To some extent the leader has brought this upon themselves, the parameters of operandi have also not been establishes amongst the team.

As time goes on and swells, members start getting better opportunities, the core team dismembers and another cycle of regrouping goes into play. If the leader was to vacate their position claiming disillusionment other factors, a cycle could be in the making of a leadership that is toothless and is constantly put to the sword by the now" all conquering conquistadors". How is then such a culture avoided? How do leaders harness and embrace an innovative supportive team? Are leader’s limitations a weakness or their strength in light of team member capacities and embracing them?
