SkinnyTwin Theatre

So you have seen a Skinny Twin production...

Ideas inspire communities to come together, participate in creating and presenting. This is a general comment and observation especially in search of a CCD praxis .In terms of artists colloborating with communities, ideas meant to inspire a community in my view can influence a communities thinking/output hence ownership they might claim, its not really community generated though it can be community informed. In worse cases, the ideas if not well researched can totally isolate and result in ex-communication between the artist and the community.

It is easy though to get bogged down in what an artist should and shouldn't bring to the table when colloborating with a community.

It is though important I think to realise that an artist is a proffessional and a community might not have the expertise in the arts as a form of expression. However, community issue presentation or expression should not be limited to the arts even if the colloboration is with an artist. Sometimes the artist, needs to be something alse, maybe a broker, an advococate etc if the colloboration with a community has not taken an art presentation form. The colloboration might have empowered the community and the artist to address their issues for example on a different stage.

A project and artist funded to go into a community sometimes holds the key the the objectives and aim of the project. Though the community might inform the process and outcome, the artist still holds the strutural and form key due to funding or empowered by the community. This in itself might be inspirational enough to a community to participate and take ownership, someone is doing something? someone has done something for us? this is an opportunity, lets utilise it?
